U17 Major Girls Ratoath 3 Leixlip United 2.
A 3:45 Sunday kick off but still we started too slow and were 2-0 down early. Leixlip gradually got in it but aside from Sophie Dalton having a headed corner blocked we couldn’t manufacture much. We knew we’d have to score first after halftime but their third goal came from a good free. The girls rarely give up though and Cara Moriarty scored a free of our own from distance. That gave us more life and Grace Kelly worked with Faye Kelly and Faye scored with a strong left foot shot from a good bit out. Ratoath were rattled and the ref was generous with injury time but the equaliser didn’t come. Well done Abby Hudson whose eye catching performance was commended by the ref after the final whistle.
U14.7 Boys Leixlip United 4 Granada 2.
A well overdue win for the lads. All their hard work finally paying off. Every one of our 17 players stepped up a level. They were winning every tackle, playing as a team and showing their class. We scored early again and conceded very quickly after again. Keeping our heads up, we were ahead again in the 9th minute. Leixlip continued on top and we were rewarded with our 3rd in the 48th minute. Granada got their second with 10 minutes left but stepped it up again and got our 4th shortly after. Our strongest performance this season, the squad are really starting to gel nicely. Our goal scorers were Sam Harrington, Conor Walsh, Ryan O'Neill, and Thomas Reilly.
U12 Premier Girls Leixlip United 1 Stepaside 0.
Second win on the bounce and like last week it was another very tight game.
Stepaside started better than us and hit the woodwork twice in the first 10 minutes. We settled into the game and just before half time we had our best chance of the half when Olivia Flood raced onto a through ball but there keeper pulled off a good save to deny her. Second half was a lot better from Leixlip with Paige Phillips getting on a lot of the ball and causing Stepaside problems, we fell asleep for a throw and ended up giving away a penalty from it. Emilia Clarke our goalkeeper made a brilliant double save to keep the game nil all. Leixlip got a free kick just inside the Stepaside half and Khloe Keegan hit it and it bounced on front of their keeper and went in. A couple of last ditch tackles and what felt like 10 minutes extra time we hung on for the win.
U16 Premier Boys Leixlip United 4 Portmarnock 2.
After an even start we went one up after a great through ball by Jesse was finished nicely by Aido, he grabbed his second soon after from a tight angle. Second half started with an own goal to make it 3. Five minutes of madness resulted in a soft first then a poor penalty made it 3-2, Fischra added our fourth and all in we should have added another 3 or 4. Good win over all. Our goal scorers were Jesse Cabral, Aidan Doyle and Fiacra Martin.
U16 Girls Leixlip United 1 Bohemians 3.
While the result didn't go our way, the performance was excellent against the team that are top of the table and unbeaten. We were right in the game at 2-1 down until the last couple of minutes when they scored their third. The most impressive thing today was how well we worked as a team. Our organisation was excellent and every time a team mate needed help, someone was there to give them a hand. If we maintain this level of performance, work rate and team spirit we will cause big problems for lots of teams.
U18 Major Boys Leixlip United 1 Glebe North 1.
Glebe are a very good side big strong and well able to put the ball around the pitch. But our lads were well able to match them. The visitors took the lead on about 20mins with a well worked goal but Jamie Cassells equalised 10mins later. It was end to end then until the 90th minute with both keepers making crucial saves. We take the point and move on to next week.
U17.2 Boys Leixlip United 1 Broadford Rovers 4.
The lads started very brightly and took the lead through James Gaynor after a great through ball by Josh Byrne. Then four defensive errors by four different Leixlip defenders led directly to Broadford goals. Roll on next week.
U15 Major SFAI Cup Rd 3 Leixlip United 3 Bohemians 0.
Playing a team a couple of divisions below us we made really hard work of it as they pretty much parked nine behind the ball at all times so whilst we had chances first half the keeper making a great save from a Daniel Bradley header it was 0-0 at halftime. We had to have a stern word and release the bench and after 15 minutes of the second half after having so many near misses from corners Daniel Bradley got on the end of a Michael Cavanagh corner to power home a header. We got another goal through a Max Farnan header from a looping cross. Daniel Bradley finished the scoring with a neat finish from a good through ball from Joe Cribben. Clean sheet again and we are now in the 4th round.
