U16.4 Boys Beech Park 4 Leixlip United 4.
End to end stuff first whistle till last. After 2 defeats in a row the boys threw everything they had into this performance to stop the rot. No slow start today. Leixlip snatching the opening goal within 3 minutes via Adam Cotter’s sweet left foot finish. Beech Park, a major threat down both wings, equalised before Adam restored Leixlip’s lead with another neat shot after being put through by a clever Fionn Egan pass. Many of the Ref’s in game ‘decisions‘ inspired noisy exchanges from both sidelines, including spectators. Leixlip, arguably the harder done by with two dreadfully disallowed goals. First, from Adam, denied a hatrick, and then Gage McCloskey, both called offside. With that reprieve, Beech Park made Leixlip pay, taking advantage from a messy corner and then a break, cross and header moments later to end the half 3-2 up. No heads dropped, the boys super positive at the re-start stepped it up a level. The defence, Oscar Butler, Ben Stoneham, Tom McManus, Craig Comerford pulled together to nullify the Beech Park wingers. Up front, Cian Gilgunn and Gabby Floroiu began causing all shorts of trouble. With Adam and Aidan Kowalski a right nuisance either side of them. It was Cian who grabbed Leixlip’s 3rd with a classic striker’s poach before setting Gabby up to let fly with the goal of the game to make it 4-4. Both teams had last minute chances. Goalie Tom Ryan denying Beech Park with the very last action of the match. A draw but a positive early season turning point for the boys.
U17s Major Boys Result Leixlip United 7 St Kevins 0.
Great performance and result from us today, we raced into a 2-goal lead with goals from Matt and Finn. Kaylum then makes it 3-0 to give us a commanding lead at halftime. 2nd half started and within a minute we went 4-0 up with a finish from Mark. Junior then scored a great goal from 25 yards to make it 5, the game became a bit erratic at this time and we managed to add another 2 with another goal from Mark and a goal from Daire to end the game. More importantly, a clean sheet, what's rare is wonderful.
U17.2 Boys Leixlip United 1 Larkview 1.
Very disappointing performance today. Lads started very well and took an early lead with a great finish from outside the box by Oscar Corcoran. We went to sleep after that and stopped playing football, letting Larkview back into the game and they scored a deserved equaliser with 25 minutes to go. Lads dominated after that but just couldn't put the ball in the net. Two wins and two draws in last four games is very positive but a real missed opportunity today.
U18 Major Boys Ashbourne 1 Leixlip United 2.
Another early kick off this time out in Ashbourne and another win and solid performance. We started off really well confidently passing the ball around the pitch and deservedly taking the lead from a Jamie cassells goal. A cross from the left from Luke Cowzer was met 1st time by Conor McElhany whose shot was blocked and fell in front of Jamie who slotted it into the keepers right corner 1-0. We started to create a few more chances but it was Ashbourne who scored next and without slating the ref we should have had a free a goal kick and an offside in the buildup to the goal, still though we had opportunities to react and to clear our lines but failed. 2nd half and we upped our game and got our 2nd goal and the eventual winner through Stephen Price. We broke down the right with some lovely 1 touch football involving at least 7 players before another cross into the box fell to Stephen and he slotted into the corner. Another great win for the boys in the league which makes it 5 wins from 6. Roll on next week now and hopefully keep the momentum going.
U14 Prem Boys Cherry orchard 2 Leixlip United 2.
After being on the end of a bad beating last week to St Kevin’s the lads took the short trip out to Cherry Orchard were they faced the early league leaders who are unbeaten so far. We went back to basics this week and set ourselves up to defend well and be hard to beat and that’s exactly what we were today. The first half was a cage affair with the best chances coming from us. We went 1-0 down 10 minutes into the second half when cherry orchard were given a dubious corner which resulted in them scoring. With 15 minutes to go we equalised with a stunning strike From Aidas who scored from 25 yards out. The referee added crazy amount of added time to a game that had little stoppages. On the 4th minute of added time they scored from a free kick that was put into the box with 2 of our defenders being fouled the ref didn’t see it and they went on and scored what they thought was the winner. Straight from tip we got the ball out wide to Dan Lyon’s who won himself a free kick. On the 5th minute of added on time Dan crossed the ball into the back post and Ben got up and scored with a header to end the Game 2-2. A positive result after last weeks game.
U15 Major Cherry Orchard 2 Leixlip United 2.
Might seem like a good away draw but it’s a sign of where the lads are that we are disappointed. First half we dominated with the wind behind us and we forced so many mistakes from them at the back Daniel Bradley was causing them major problems with his strenght and he was unlucky 3 times to not find the back of the net. Max Farnan was getting great joy on the left but as happens they have 1 attack and a deflected cross loops over our keeper and we are 1 nil down after 20mins when we should’ve been at least 2 up. Immediately from the kickoff Cillian O’Hagan drove forward from full back and was unlucky not to get a shot off but it showed us this game was far from over and 5 mins later Daniel Bradley won the ball high again and slipped Max Farnan in for a neat finish 1-1 halftime. Wind against us second half so we made a couple of early changes to freshen things up but we misjudged a long ball on the wind and another missed clearance fell to their striker who finished. Again the lads rallied and we knew Max had the beating of his man and when Oisin Kelly won the ball high and slipped it to Max he beat his man again and finished brilliantly from an acute angle 2-2. We were really pushing now and we were under their skin and when Daniel Bradley had his jersey basically ripped off a red was warranted but ref gave their midfielder a yellow. We created a few more chances through Dany Pop just our final ball was a yard off. Our whole backline and two center backs Aaron Power & Joe Cribben were like rocks under the onslaught of long balls second half and a particular mention to Ruvin who stepped up to play in goals for us today and was excellent. Again we went behind and fought back so we stay unbeaten and the lads seem to be building a great team spirit each week which is great too see as the whole squad contributed today.
U15.1 Boys Leixlip United 2 Wayside Celtic 1.
Another hard fought win by the lads today on the astro against good opposition. We started off well for the first 15 mins playing the ball in their half however went behind from a wicked deflection off one of our defenders giving our keeper no chance. Lucky not to concede again soon afterwards when Wayside hit the bar and a couple of great saves by Dan O'Reilly in goal. With 5 minutes till half time we got an equaliser following a quick move on the break. Aidan McConville laid off into Stevie Owens just outside the box who then finished into bottom right hand corner giving their keeper no chance. We went into half time all square. Both teams started the 2nd half very cagey. 15 mins in we got the break through. Down the middle Dara Neville passed into Aidan McConville who flicked on header and Brendan Carolan's speed and clinical finishing scored under their keeper. This ultimately put the match out of reach. For the last 20 minutes we continued to have the better passage of play and played some lovely football. Another great performance by Steve McLoughlin and Krystian Ivanov at the back to see out the game.
U13 Prem Girls Ballyoulster 4 Leixlip United 0.
The score in no way reflected how the game went. A couple of late withdrawals meant we had to start with 8 players and an injury midway through the second half meant we finished the game with only 7. The score was 0-0 at half time and we were actually unlucky not to be leading at that stage. We conceded a couple of early goals in the 2nd half but the heads never dropped and the effort the girls put in was fantastic. Tiredness and injuries kicked in late on and a couple of late goals flattered Ballyoulster. We had two girls playing their first game for us today too so that makes the performance even better. Results haven't been going our way lately but that's purely down to the quantity of players in our squad and most definitely not the quality. The girls ran themselves into the ground. We couldn't have asked for more.
