U12's trip to Birmingham (Photo above)
Robbie Fayes Leixlip Under 12 premier team flew to Birmingham last week to take part in the UK international Cup. Led by their coaches Robbie, Fran and Hugh the boys played some excellent football and really stood out as one of the better footballing sides in the competition. With 3 matches Saturday and Sunday mixed in with swimming and table tennis competitions the lads had a jam packed weekend they will not forget. All the lads played excellent but Adam Walsh( parents player of the tournament and Charlie McGann( players player of the tournament) really stood out. Well done boys. We'd like to thank our main sponsors Gabriel O Brien Crane Hire, The Elliot Group, Transpoco, Trinity Diamonds and R&G electrical for making the trip possible.

Match Reports

MGL u16a Leixlip 0 Malahide 1
Unlucky to lose to the league leaders, it was a close bruising match with few clear chances.
We had many forced changes in the second half and when they didn’t convert a penalty it looked like a draw.
Malahide got the win with 5 minutes to go - a ball dropped in behind which they got to first & scored.

MGL u18s Cup semi final Clonee 1 - Leixlip 2
Brilliant win for the girls this afternoon against a very strong Clonee team sees us into the cup final next month.
We went behind early on and didn't settle until about half an hour in when we started to put some passes together. The improvement led to a deserved equaliser as Irina Canizares threaded a nice ball through for Emily Lynch to finish calmly. Second half we played better and had a few chances, took us until the last 15 minutes to score with a superb long distance free kick from Maia Mulligan beating the keeper, her second game in a row scoring from a dead ball! Time seemed to slow down after that, with lots of injury time too.. but we saw it out well and could have added a 3rd.

Very pleased for the girls who've worked hard this season, when there's not been as much football played as we'd like, nice to cap it off with a final.

Boys U13 Div 7 Sun Leixlip 8-0 Shankill
We got what we deserved today building on our brilliant performance from Thursday night. It was a solid performance where we took our chances. Shankill were better than the scoreline suggests. A real confidence booster for the boys. Roll on next week

U16B Mount Merrion 0-3 Leixlip
Full squad available today and it helped us to a straightforward win. Lads were dominant from the start. We missed a number of great chances before finally scoring through Sam Bacon just before half time. Lads pushed on in the second half. Marti Jubert scored a free kick from the edge of the box. Sam Bacon finished the scoring via a penalty after Jack Kineavy was taken down in the box. Good squad effort today by all 17 lads.

15M Leixlip Utd 3- 2 Glebe North
Another frustrating performance from the lads today in a league Cup tie. We went ahead after a lovely ball in from Jamie Flood was brilliantly finished by Fiacra Martin. Midway through the half after a nice move Ryan Naughton finished well at the far post. We continued to be hit and miss in the period and we gave away a poor enough goal to bring them back into the game. Jamie Flood then smashed an absolute cracker into the roof of the net to ease the pressure. However, more sloppy defending let Glebe in for a second goal but we managed to see the game out.We move on into the next round but we will have to do better if we want to progress in this competition.

Leixlip 15A 3-3 Baldoyle.
Super contest in the last game of the day. Great support watching and they were treated to an excellent game. Alex Pringle Tighe helped himself to 2 goals in the first half (both from 20 yards). Baldoyle came back strong in the second half and leveled from the peno spot (the ref was the only one in the ground who saw a foul). Our lads rallied again and Cameron McCormish got a deserved goal. 3-2 with a few mins left. Back came Baldoyle and scored again despite best efforts from Kyle Hutton in goal.

U14P Leixlip 0 - 1 Templeogue
Six pointer and we played the first 20 mins like we didn’t want to lose and we never got going, conceded after 10 mins from a corner really disappointing as it was a good delivery but a free man at the back post takes it down and finishes. We settled and after a few choice words at halftime we were excellent for the first 20 mins of the second half, their keeper made one worldly save tipping the ball out of top corner and we had so much possession and corners but we could not make it count. They were looking to hit us on the break but we dealt with it pretty well, we were camped in their half but the ball would not fall for us or just that final ball went astray. Happy with the second half but gutted we got nothing from it. Orchard on Monday so no time to dwell.

U13M Leixlip United 9-0 Corduff.
With Greystones not playing today we knew a win would move us back to the top of the table. We played on the front foot from the off and scored early goals to kill the game. Despite the scoreline Corduff never gave up and kept trying to play football. Aidas & Ben got a hat trick each, Adam, Conor & Jack scored our other goals.

U13 Sun Div 7 Boys Parkvale 1-0 Leixlip
Tonight we went toe-to-toe with the unbeaten league leaders. We played great football, defended brilliantly but just didn't get the bounce of the ball. As we got tired Parkvale put us under pressure and scored in the last minute of normal time. The lads went straight up the other end and won a corner and nearly scored but it wasn't to be. Performances are getting better and better, I'm sure the results will come.
