MGL u18s Balrath 1 Leixlip 5
In a strange season this was only our 4th match, 3 of which have been away to Balrath. This was the first match in the rearranged league and having lost two players to the WNL.A very good performance, we showed no rustiness as we went 2-0 up within 2 minutes. Both goals were scored by Ruby Munelly, as her pace was too much for the home defence. Ruby soon got a 3rd, finishing well from a great threaded through ball from Irina Canizares. In the second half Balrath pulled one back, but we scored soon after with Katie Allen cutting in well from the right and the defender turned it in for an OG. Ruby got her 4th of the match after Maia Mulligan hit the bar from long range, Ruby nipped in to score well making it 5-1.
A great win, hopefully we won't have to wait as long for our next match!
U16B Phoenix 2-3 Leixlip
Great battle today. Phoenix took an early lead against the run of play. Lads didn't panic and Chris Harold quickly equalised after great work by Marti Jubert and Nathan Elliott. Leixlip went 2-1 up before half time with a free kick from Jack Kelly. Phoenix pushed hard in the second half but James Gaynor eased the pressure when he won a penalty after a great run into the box, and Marti Jubert converted. Phoenix pulled one back to make for an uncomfortable last 10 minutes but the lads put in some shift to protect the 3 points. Great effort by all the squad.
U13 Girls Div 1 Knocklyon 0 - 2 Leixlip (Photo above)
Right from the kick off, the girls demonstrated they were up for the challenge, refusing to concede an inch to Knocklyon, despite the desperate condition of the pitch. The breakthrough came in the first half, as Niamh Looney capitalized on relentless pressure from the girls, finding the back of the net and setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Our goalie, Jules Nunan, played a vital role in preserving a clean sheet with a couple of remarkable saves that thwarted Knocklyon's attempts to level the score. The second goal unfolded in the dying moments of the game, Niamh Looney once again found herself on the scoresheet, capitalizing on a throw-in by Jessica McDonald. Outmuscling the opposing center-half, Niamh fired a shot towards goal and left the Knocklyon goalkeeper helpless. They did really well today, it's one thing doing it under the lights and on perfect conditions at home, but the real test comes when they play on really poor pitches like today, and they showed what they are made of!
U14P Leixlip 3 Ballyoulster 0
Six pointer today against a team around us at the bottom. Lads started on front foot but clear cut chances were hard to come by in the first half, we had one disallowed for offside but on stroke of halftime captain Dan Bradley dispossessed the center half and powered through and whilst keeper made good first save Dan kept composure and slotted home rebound. Second half we were by far the better side but needed that second goal and it came midway through the half with the ball breaking to Oisin Stokes on the edge of the box and he hit a looping shot over the keeper into the top corner. Dan Bradley sealed the deal with his second with 10 mins to go after a good thru ball he powered into the box and again the keeper made the first save but he finished the rebound with his left. Happy with the win but happier with the clean sheet, brand new center half pairing of Joe Cribben and Dan Kemple and they were excellent. Task now is to put two good performances in back to back!
U13M Leixlip Utd 1-0 Bohs.
The winning run continues. Senán scored inside 5 minutes but this week it was all about our back five Evan, Luke, Liam, Conor and Ronán and our two central midfielders Marco and Charlie N. The 7 of them showed great composure in possession and desire to win the ball back. They stopped Bohs from building momentum and gave us a great platform to attack. Charlie C, Adam and Jack all made positive contributions from the bench. Next up is Belvo in the league cup.
U14 Major1: Mochtas 0 Leixlip 2
A win to savour as they stuffed us 4-0 at home…
Following a strong start Senan Moriarty collected the ball in midfield and fed Ben Kineavey on the right. Under pressure he got a great cross to Aidan McConville who controlled it on his chest & shot to score a peach. We had more chances, corners, scrambles in the box and rattled the post from distance as the half went on. Mochtas had their best spell after the break & Dan O'Reilly made a great save rushing on to a break in behind.
It was over & back but relief came when Senan Moriarty drove at them and then slipped in Stevie Owens whose left foot strike evaded the stretched keeper and went in off the base of the far post. The management & parents had the perfect angle for it.
Very happy lads after a great squad performance - everyone played their best football & we even survived a late point blank indirect free for a back pass Photo attached of the lads in their new winter training gear, kindly sponsored by Ross Engineering.
Senior 1B Portlaoise AFC 1 Leixlip Utd 1
Wayne Kelly's tenure as our first team manager got off to a good start with a well deserved draw in Portlaoise last Friday. Leixlip were in fact very unfortunate not to take all 3 points from the encounter after 17 year old Joshua Flood sent a 30 yarder into the roof of the net late in the game. A very contentious equaliser in the dying moments of the game saved a point for Portlaoise. A good performance which should give the lads plenty of confidence going into their home game on Friday against Dublin University.
