MGL u18s Leixlip 5 Bohemians 2
Good victory for the girls this morning in very blustery conditions. We started well and deservedly took the lead as Irina Canizares controlled a volley into the bottom corner from inside the box. We were 2 up soon after with Emily Lynch cutting in from the left wing to finish accurately right footed. We were comfortable but got caught out from a long range effort that went in wind assisted, and the equaliser came a couple of minutes later. There was still ten minutes to half time and we picked up, firstly with Ruby Munnelly taking the ball into the box and scoring well despite being surrounded by defenders and it was 4-2 soon after when Jae Howard scored a well taken goal.
Second half was quieter - but we sealed it with a nice header from Isabelle Braescu from a Katie Allen corner.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone behind the scenes who put in a lot of effort to get this game to happen, it's really appreciated.
SFAI Cup 3rd Round: Leixlip 2 Malahide 3
This was a great battle and neither team took a step back.
Having just hit the post we scored first when Cara Moriarty’s corner went straight in high at the near post.
They equalised immediately scoring from a scramble that followed both a great save & charged down shot.
Malahide then took the lead with a phenomenal top corner free kick and then added another before the break.
The 2nd half was a cracker and we kept them out with Evie McNaughton making brave stops at the feet of strikers.
Tireless work earned us a goal back when Robyn McCaughey played the perfect pass to Sophie Dalton who hammered it home.
We’ll learn from one of our most physical games yet - the girls threw everything at it for the last 10 but Malahide held out.
SFAI 3rd round 16s Leixlip Major 1-3 Raheny Premier
A very good game on a mud bath, a great battling performance, we missed a glaring chance after 2 minutes with a great save from their keeper to his credit, we then go and conceded from a corner within 2 minutes of this, and then proceeded to concede from a 2nd corner 5 mins later. To be fair to the lads they gave as good as they got and put in a great performance, Raheny scored a 3rd into 2nd half with a well-worked goal, and we kept pushing and got rewarded from a keeper error for Robertas to lob the keeper from 25 yards and make the last 10 mins a bit more exciting. Unfortunately, it ended 3-1 but a very good positive performance against a team in Premier after a couple of disappointing performances recently.
15M. Leixlip Utd 2 Cherry Orchard 2
Sometimes you get a game of two halves but this was 65 minutes and 5 minutes. We were in complete control, without playing great, for 65 minutes. Two good goals, one from Aaron McDonagh and an absolute cracker from Jesse Cabral has us coasting to victory. The last five minutes were an absolute nightmare and the Orchard scored twice from dead ball situations to leave us absolutely distraught.A harsh lesson learned today but we move on to Home Farm next week.
U13 SFAI Cup Rd 3 Leixlip United 0-1 Home Farm
After winning 3 games on the bounce our run came to an end at the hands of Home Farm. We started well and Ben Osmic created the first chance of the game for himself. He did brilliantly to take the ball in, roll the CB and dribble into the box. The Home Farm keeper made a good save with his left boot and his CB reacted first to scramble the ball clear. Home Farm grew into the game and began to put us under pressure. They spread the ball wide attacking down both flanks but Liam Downey and Max Kelleher stood up to the task very well. When the cross did reach the box our GK Ailill Forkan, CB’s Conor O’Sullivan and Ronán Gorman along with CM’s Charlie Norman and Marco Andres dealt with the danger. Luke Dennehy created our next clear chance of the half but again the left boot of the HF keeper denied us. The only goal of the game came late in the first half as HF scored with a shot from the edge of the box. We kept trying to play football and created several openings but couldn’t deliver the final pass. Dan Lyons latched on to a poor clearance and was very unlucky to see his floated cross headed away with two of our players waiting in the box. Fancy footwork by Dara Moylan fashioned another chance for us as the game wore on but he couldn’t find the back of the net with his shot. We pushed hard for an equaliser but the referee blew up right on the button.
Squad: Adam Rafferty, Ailill Forkan, Ben Osmic, Charlie Norman, Conor O’Sullivan, Dan Lyons, Dara Moylan, Glen Murray, Josh Johnson, Kian McCormack, Liam Downey, Luke Dennehy, Marco Andres, Max Kelleher, Ronán Gorman, Senán McAuley
