U15 A-A1 Cup Leixlip Utd 4 Baldoyle 1
It has been a fairly miserable 2024 so far for this team. Performances and attitudes in training have not always made it to match day, and when they have… often times have not been rewarded fairly. That all changed today!
In blustery, cold conditions, the first half proved to be an evenly pitched contest with good individual battles playing out across the pitch. Baldoyle, with the wind behind them, slightly edged it with a well struck shot from just outside the box. 0-1 at the break. The boys' heads did not drop and the HT interval could not end quick enough for them. Baldoyle hit the crossbar early which finally triggered Leixlip into top gear. Within minutes, MOTM Cameron McComish lashing a vicious shot into the roof of the net after an excellent team build up. Not long after, a long clearance from Oscar Butler took a wicked bounce and flew over the Baldoyle Keeper’s head to give Leixlip the lead. Sean Chikandura delivered number 3 via a well struck free kick from the right before Cameron got a deserved 2nd, and Leixlip’s 4th, with a vintage poach towards the end.
The whole team put in a great shift. Special shouts out to Ben Stoneham, Ronan Silke, Oscar Butler and Conor Jeffrey. A win to build on.
SFAI Cup Leixlip Utd 7 Leicester Celtic 1
A super result for the lads today which puts them into the last 8 of the competition. Ryan Good put us in front in the early stages with a nice finish from the edge of the box. Fiacra Martin then added a second when he latched onto a ball down the middle, went around the keeper and rolled the ball into the empty net. Our third came after a good move down the right and Fiacra finished brilliantly to put us 3 up at the break. We started quick and Ryan Good with another brilliant finish had us 4 up. A momentary lapse of concentration allowed Leicester to pull a goal back but we responded almost immediately with a fifth goal from Jesse Cabral. Fiacra Martin then completed his hat trick and Tom Byrne after a brilliant turn and run put the ball across and a defender turned the ball into his own net. Not our best performance but a great result slightly marred by conceding our first goal in the competition. We look forward to an away day in Limerick in a couple of weeks to face Pike Rovers.
U14P Thunder Cup Leixlip 1 Shels 3
Pre match talk went out the window about keeping it tight at the start when we gifted them 2 goals in the first 7 mins with errors at the back. Credit to the lads they settled after that and battled back into the game, we had a perfectly good goal disallowed halfway through the half but the lads kept focus and we scored after 25 minutes from a corner when the cleared ball fell to Oisin Stokes who drilled it home. Second half we were on the front foot and Daniel Bradley drove into the box but his left foot shot crashed off the post and bar. We were pushing them back and again Daniel was driving into the box and was clipped but his honesty to stay up counted against him but if he falls it’s a definite pen no advantage but chance was gone. We held Shells and finally after we pushed players on to get the equaliser they had a ball over the top marginal offside but they finished so 3-1. Happy with performance and our fight back after the first 7 minutes but we have to stop giving teams a head start.
U/12A Leixlip Utd 6-1 Larkview
It was a fast start from the lads this morning, and Tadhg Mallon had us in front inside 5 minutes after breaking through from midfield and firing into the far corner. Larkview levelled a few minutes later after a good run and finish from their winger. We continued to push for a second and got our reward when Jamie Lawlor pounced on a loose kick out and tucked it away well. Sam Cribben got the third after half time with a well taken finish before Daniel O'Shea made it four with a long range left foot volley. Tadhg Mallon got the fifth and Max Malanephy rounded off the scoring with a superb chip over the keeper. Big thanks to Jamie and Max from the under 11s who helped us out today.
Under 16s Major/Major 1 Cup Leixlip 4-1 St Moctas
Good performance from us tonight, very dominant throughout vs Moctas from Major 1. Goals from Lewis, Omar and Finn puts us into the quarter finals.
U16s B/B1 cup Leixlip 4-3 Park Vale
Lads stood up well today to a very physical side. Leixlip took an early lead through goals from Nathan Elliott and David Ibrahim, after great work in the box by Oscar Corcoran on both occasions. We conceded two messy goals against the run of play to make it 2-2 on 50 minutes. Lads kept calm and some good Leixlip pressure led to a penalty which was converted by Daragh Looney Nathan Elliott got his second of the game when he converted at the back post from a James Gaynor cross from the left to make it 4-2. We had an uncomfortable last 5 minutes after Park Vale pulled another one back but the lads saw the game out to progress into the quarter finals. Great performance by keeper Cillian Gamble and his defence.
U13-7 Boys Leixlip 4 - 2 Granada
A great win for the lads today. Confidence is really growing. We got off to a great start winning and converting a peno in the first minute. We were 3-0 up after 25 minutes. Granada got a deserved goal before half time and another in the 52nd minute. We reacted the right way and got the 4th with 2 minutes left.
A really competitive game. Our scorers were Evan, Conor and a brace from Setempi.
Carlton Cup u16: Maynooth 0 Leixlip 0 (Maynooth won 4-3 on penalties)
Tough experience for our girls. We created lots of chances in normal time and extra time - forcing their keeper to make a few good saves. Their defenders had a lot to do too whereas our keeper Evie McNaughton had little to do and Molly Crehan snuffed out the one dangerous attack they had. A game we will learn from.
